Welcome to Beaufort

Welcome to the sun-soaked shores of the gorgeous Palmetto State. The city’s landscape is laid out almost like a miniature archipelago with a series of small islands that segment the region’s lush marshlands and sprawling beaches. The most prominent of these islands include Hunting Island, Lady’s Island, Fripp Island, along with St. Helena, Port Royal, Harbor, and Parris Islands. The city is beautifully interwoven, converging each island's natural and economic aspects into a cohesive slice of paradise.

Beaufort had to come from somewhere, and its origin story is rather interesting. Beaufort was established in 1711 and became the second town to be founded in South Carolina. As the town’s population size began to grow, rice and indigo plantations moved in alongside a variety of other businesses. This is only barely scratching the surface of Beaufort’s rich history. If you’re still feeling intrigued to learn more about South Carolina’s coastline, museums like the Beaufort History Museum can further delight your curiosity.
